Wat Phutthaisawan Temporarily Closes Historical Site Area Pending Electrical System Upgrades

Wat Phutthaisawan, a royal monastery, has announced a temporary closure of its historical site area until the electrical system upgrades are completed.


On 10 Sep 2026 GMT+7, it was reported that the official Facebook pageof Wat Phutthaisawan, a royal monastery,posted a message stating, “Wat Phutthaisawan is temporarily closing the historical site area until the electrical system improvements are finished.”

They apologized for the inconvenience on Thursday, 10 Sep 2026 GMT+7.


Earlier this morning, officers from the Crime Suppression Division (CIB) arrested Phra Wachirayan Wi., also known as Luang Pho Atichot, the abbot of Wat Phutthaisawan in Samphao Lom Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. He was accused of embezzling temple funds and transferring over 92 million baht to a close female associate to conceal the assets. The arrest took place at the abbot’s residence in the temple.

Initial reports state that Phra Wachirayan Wi. provided information related to allegations of sexual misconduct. Authorities are collecting further evidence and verifying facts. This afternoon, a white robe set was prepared for his leave-the-monastic-order ceremony before officers will transfer him back to the Crime Suppression Division for interrogation and further investigation into the financial transactions involving approximately 92 million baht, as well as reviewing related documents and evidence.
