Symptoms to watch for include high fever, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and possibly low platelet counts. Severe symptoms may result in complications.
Protect yourself and your pets easily by avoiding touching or crushing ticks with bare hands, keeping the home and pet living areas clean, regularly checking and removing ticks from dogs and cats, and following veterinary advice for pet care.
If you develop a high fever and have a history of tick bites or contact with tick-infested animals within approximately two weeks before illness, promptly see a doctor and inform them of your tick or pet exposure to assist in proper diagnosis and treatment.
