The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) and Government Savings Bank have transferred flood relief payments of 9,000 baht to flood victims. The first batch has been sent to five provinces, totaling over 68 million baht.
On 8 Oct 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Nirat Pongsitthaworn, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, clarified details about aid for people affected by the 2026 rainy season floods, following the Cabinet's resolution. The "9,000 baht flood relief and 5,000 baht flood encirclement" assistance aims to ease concerns among residents of Khlong Chan housing flats after confusing reports were circulated.
The DDPM director stated that in all flood-affected provinces meeting the criteria, once local officials such as governors, district chiefs, or district directors confirm the flooding officially, affected residents can register for relief assistance immediately.
This morning, the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Anutin Charnvirakul, held a video conference from abroad with the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command Center to urge all relevant agencies to fully compensate affected people based on actual damage. The DDPM has coordinated with Bangkok and provincial authorities to promptly send data for verification by the Government Savings Bank, which will then transfer relief payments via PromptPay as quickly as possible.
Regarding questions about areas not meeting relief criteria, he explained that this does not mean Khlong Chan flats are excluded from aid. He reassured residents that the DDPM understands their hardship and is closely coordinating with Bangkok authorities to communicate clearly with the local community.
Residents with questions about their eligibility or registration can inquire at local administrative organizations or district offices, which will assist promptly. People are also urged to follow official government channels for accurate and up-to-date information on relief payments.
Today (8 Oct), the DDPM and Government Savings Bank are disbursing the first batch of flood relief payments to confirmed victims in five provinces: Samut Prakan, Sa Kaeo, Tak, Chanthaburi, and Mae Hong Son. This batch includes 8,216 households totaling 68,003,000 baht. Although this aid cannot fully compensate for flood losses, the government is committed to comprehensive support for all affected citizens.
