Mourning Police Sergeant Thanawat Khaichangkan the police officer nicknamed "Robocop of Nonthaburi" has died in a traffic accident.

At 18:00 on 18 October 2026, officers from Bang Sri Muang Police Station in Nonthaburi Province received a report of a collision between a motorcycle and a car, with one fatality. The incident occurred on Bang Kruai-Sai Noi Road, Bang Krang Subdistrict, Mueang Nonthaburi District. Upon notification, they promptly proceeded to the scene accompanied by forensic doctors from the Institute of Forensic Science and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation.

At the scene, a brown car registered in Bangkok was found with a cracked windshield and the driver's door badly damaged, parked on the left lane. Nearby lay a blue motorcycle with severe front damage, toppled in the middle of the road.

Further away by the roadside was the body of Police Sergeant Thanawat Khaichangkan, 28, a motorcycle patrol officer at Bang Sri Muang Police Station, known as the "Robocop of Nonthaburi" because he frequently wore full tactical gear with all necessary equipment during patrols. The body was found lying on his back wearing a T-shirt and shorts.

CCTV footage from the scene showed Sergeant Thanawat riding his motorcycle from Ratchaphruek intersection heading towards Bang Sri Muang intersection. At the accident site, a car exited a house, crossed lanes to make a right turn onto Ratchaphruek Road, causing the motorcycle to collide forcefully with the driver's side door, resulting in the fatality.

A local witness said they did not see the moment of impact but heard a loud crash. When they looked, they saw the motorcyclist lying motionless and immediately rushed to assist.

The 70-year-old driver, Uncle Ek, said he was driving from home to a funeral at Bang Krang Temple. He checked for oncoming vehicles and proceeded to cross lanes. He then saw a shadow suddenly collide with his car. After the accident, he got out to inspect the scene before police took him to the station. A breathalyzer test showed zero alcohol, as he had not been drinking.

Initially, investigators charged Uncle Ek with negligent driving causing death. The body was sent to the Institute of Forensic Science for an autopsy.
