Emergency: China Airlines Aircrafts Main Landing Gear Sinks into Runway at Suvarnabhumi During Takeoff Preparation

A China Airlines aircraft on the Suvarnabhumi-Kaohsiung route experienced its main landing gear sinking into the runway surface at Suvarnabhumi while preparing for takeoff, preventing further movement. It was subsequently moved for inspection, and runway operations returned to normal.

On 29 October 2026, the popular Facebook pageOutsider’s Aviationposted a message with photos stating, “A Boeing 737-800 aircraft operated by China Airlines, registration B-18665, flight CI840 from Suvarnabhumi to Kaohsiung, experienced its main landing gear sinking into the surface near the threshold of runway 02R at Suvarnabhumi Airport around 19:20 on 28 October 2026 while preparing for takeoff, causing the aircraft to be unable to move forward.”

Currently, the aircraft has been moved to parking stand 502 for inspection. The airport is providing normal service with all three runways operational.

Reporters further noted that following the incident, China Airlines transported 116 passengers and 8 crew members by bus to a hotel arranged by the airline. They are preparing to transfer these passengers and crew to other flights.

Any further updates or official statements from the airport will be reported as they become available.
