Baby Toon has arrived! "Suchat" reveals great news: Khao Kheow has a new member, the grandchild of "Moo Deng," heir of the prominent dwarf hippos "Moo Toon" and "Moo Manow," with an official introduction coming soon.
On 5 Oct 2026, Mr. Suchat Chomklin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, announced the good news that Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi has welcomed a new member—a dwarf hippopotamus born on 4 November 2026. The mother, named "Moo Manow," is 14 years old, and the father, "Moo Toon," is 7 years old; both are siblings of "Moo Deng," the beloved dwarf hippo. This new arrival officially makes the baby a grandchild of Moo Deng, sparking excitement and smiles among Moo Deng’s fans and animal lovers across the country.
Mr. Suchat stated that he received reports from Mr. Narongwit Chodchoi, Director of Khao Kheow Open Zoo, that after birth, the veterinary team closely monitored and checked the health of both mother and calf. Both are in good health. The baby hippo has begun moving and exploring its surroundings, with mother Moo Manow attentively following and caring for it. They have now been allowed to stay together normally.
However, mother Moo Manow continues to exhibit protective behavior, vigilantly watching over her baby and not allowing staff to approach closely. This maternal instinct is endearing, reflecting the strong bond and close care she provides her little one.
Khao Kheow Open Zoo is preparing to officially present the new member to the public and fans soon. This is another joyous occasion for the dwarf hippo family, marking "Moo Deng"’s official status as an uncle.
As for "Moo Toon" and "Moo Manow," they were married on 24 January 2025, with Her Royal Highness Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya Sirivadhana Barnavadi participating in the wedding procession as a senior relative of the groom. She also signed as a witness on the marriage certificate between Miss Moo Manow and Mr. Moo Toon, the dwarf hippopotamuses of Khao Kheow Open Zoo.
