Mr. Jakkapan Phiungam, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, said that the contract for private contractors to transport waste from the Nong Khaem Waste Disposal Center and dispose of it by sanitary landfill will expire around August. After that, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, through the Environment Office, will construct a new waste transfer station building to replace the old one that has been in use for a long time. The new building will be a fully closed system to prevent odors from escaping outside, using odor treatment technology inside the building. It will also be equipped with high-speed automatic doors that open and close only when garbage trucks enter and exit. All waste disposal processes will take place inside the building. Additionally, odor measurement systems and CCTV cameras will be installed, the surrounding landscape will be improved by planting trees and constructing dust-filter walls, increasing green space, and installing wheel washing systems for vehicles before leaving the station. Construction is expected to begin around June.
The Deputy Governor of Bangkok added that he has assigned the Environment Office to expedite the design and planning of a fully closed system so operations can continue immediately after the current contract ends. He emphasized strict odor control to prevent any impact on residents. Regarding the new waste disposal project at the Nong Khaem transfer station, the contractor has upgraded the building to a completely closed system, installing entry and exit doors that open only when garbage trucks pass through, along with air curtains to prevent odor from spreading outside. For open-top container loading, tarps must be immediately placed over the load when full to prevent odor affecting the community. The contractor has also been strictly instructed to comply fully with the contract.
