Tan Tantawan steps fully into a leading role, starring opposite senior actress Chingching Karita in the intense drama "Diamond Heart Man"."Diamond Heart Man"on Channel 7HD has created a fresh new chemistry. Chingching said, "This is actually the first time we've worked together, so there was a bit of nervousness."
How was it working as co-stars, Chingching?
"It was good. I saw his development very quickly. At first, he was worried about not being able to sing or play guitar, and action scenes weren't his strength either. But during filming, he made great progress. There was a scene with off-road motorbike riding, and he insisted on doing it himself. He really pushed himself."
Tan said, "I was confident I could ride. This is my face, and everything I do is thanks to the seniors. If I took a lead role but couldn't perform, it would be unfair. I was determined. Having support from Ching, Tao Somchai gave me encouragement. At first, I felt the most pressure when I got the lead role because I didn't know what to expect. The second pressure was filming the first scene. Honestly, as the lead, I had to make the audience believe me. The third pressure was working with Tao at first, but with Ching, I didn’t feel pressured because she is very friendly."
How is Tan's singing?
Chingching said, "At first, I hadn’t heard because he went into the recording studio before I did, so I didn’t know how he sang. But when I heard it, he sings well, he's talented."
Tan added, "By the time I started singing towards the end, the pressure disappeared and I just wanted to do well."
Chingching said, "I watched the old version a bit, but I didn’t want to watch it fully because I was afraid of being stuck with that image. I wanted to make this version the best. The story is heavy on drama, with parts about parents who restrict their children’s lives and children living under high expectations."
Do you feel more confident singing now?
Tan replied, "Yes. I don’t just sing one song; I sing about three or four. After the first song, I took singing lessons and gained experience. I consulted Tao. He was the first to praise me a lot, saying it was excellent (laughs). I also took a guitar course to learn chords. It wasn’t too difficult, so I watched YouTube videos on how to play chords." When asked which was hardest among acting, singing, playing guitar, and tennis, he said,
Tan said, "Everything is hard, but tennis has become natural to me now, so it’s not difficult anymore. Acting is hard because you have to work with others and use your emotions."
Chingching added, "When Tan is on set, he plays guitar every day. Sometimes I want to sleep and cover myself with a blanket, but Tan picks up the guitar and plays and sings. I’m okay with that; if I don’t want to sleep, I’ll get up and join. He doesn’t stop singing because he’s very dedicated."
