Netflix reveals the first images from the series Plerng Phra Nang retelling a new legend by the creators of Sueb San Dan inviting viewers to follow the sparks of a throne battle fought with cunning, love, and vengeance
The story unfolds in Thip City, long ruled by the Thipayawong dynasty for over 300 years until the throne passed to Queen Tawantip (Pancake Khemanit) who used her power to brutally suppress the vassal states. She was overthrown by King Phuka (Tuk Napatsorn) who established the Phukhaluang dynasty in her place.
Eighteen years later, Buraphakam (Boy Pakorn) the eldest heir of Queen Tawantip, led a violent rebellion and assassinated King Phuka. Anantip (Baifern Pimchanok) a descendant of King Phuka, was exiled. This disgrace transformed her from a princess committed to kindness into a strategic woman determined to restore the honor of the Phukhaluang dynasty.
The Netflix version of Plerng Phra Nang offers a new interpretation by director Siworot Kongsakul, who said, “After reading the script, I felt it was a very well-crafted work. The story is driven by the characters' emotions, showing life events and family relationships, centered around a battle for the throne. I was immersed in the tears, laughter, and screams of every character. At times, it felt like the story was teaching both the emotions and even myself. I intended to preserve the core and heart of the story while adding new details—dimensions and life arcs of the characters—so viewers can understand each character’s path and motives in their own battlegrounds, creating a fresh, well-balanced, and intricate intensity.”
Baifern Pimchanok Luevisetpaiboon shared about preparing for her role as “Anantip” saying, “Anantip faces extreme turning points and severe shocks repeatedly. I did a lot of homework, interpreting the role and exploring new dimensions I hadn’t played before, including additional workshops.” She consulted with director Kan (Siworot Kongsakul) about the character’s direction because I wanted to portray Anantip in all her aspects. Viewers may have seen her as a strong, capable woman, but I want them to see her as just a woman—lonely and a girl hurt by loss before entering this throne struggle, to understand why she must fight.”
Yada Narilaya Kulmongkolphet spoke about the dimension of her character “Sekkhorntewi” saying, “Sekkhorntewi is gentle, kind-hearted, and compassionate, raised with every privilege. But beneath that, she is stubborn and holds firmly to traditions she believes are right. I prepared extensively with acting coaches and workshops with the cast, discovering many unexpected facets of Sekkhorntewi’s feelings. I then designed and reinterpreted these feelings in a new context, creating a Sekkhorntewi different from what viewers know—strong, resolute, and self-assured.”
Meanwhile, Pancake Khemanit Jamikorn revealed about her role as the queen “Tawantip” a new character adding depth to the storyline in Netflix’s Plerng Phra Nang, saying, “Introducing Tawantip allows viewers to explore the reasons behind the ruin, chaos, and war. Her story is woven throughout the series. I think Tawantip is a very interesting character and a new story I get to tell viewers, showing her identity and the powerful authority she holds above all. She embodies a beauty mixed with violence, yet there are many more layers to her story.”
