Examining Cambodian Weapons Used to Attack Thailand in the Latest Border Clashes

Examining the military capabilities of "Cambodian weapons" used to attack the Thai frontline during the latest border clashes, resulting in 9 Thai soldiers killed and 120 wounded, with additional injuries.

In the latest tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border, Cambodia has continuously used various weapons to attack Thai territory. Seven Thai provinces have been affected: Ubon Ratchathani, Surin, Buriram, Sisaket, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, and Trat. These provinces face threats from multiple types of weapons, each capable of causing significant damage to personnel and local communities.

Thairath Online has compiled information from the 1st and 2nd Army Regions. From 8 to 11 Nov 2025 GMT+7 (today), Cambodia has employed a variety of weapons in attacks, ranging from small arms for close combat to wide-area destructive weapons such as artillery and multiple rocket launchers. Additionally, modern equipment like FPV suicide drones capable of precise strikes on specific targets have been used.

These attacks have caused Thailand to suffer losses including 9 military personnel killed and 120 injured. Indirect civilian deaths total 4, with over 400,000 residents in the affected areas severely impacted and forced to evacuate.

Cambodian weapons used to attack Thailand

1. Small arms

Effective range of 300–600 meters, used for close combat. Primarily designed to target individuals, often employed in sudden clashes or ambushes in forests and narrow terrain pathways.

2. Artillery

Range covering 10–24 kilometers, capable of destroying wide areas and causing explosions across multiple targets simultaneously. Cambodia initially fired at least 122 artillery rounds into Thai territory, damaging homes and community areas and continuously threatening safety.

3. Silenced rifles

Effective range of 300–1,000 meters, used to attack buildings, strongholds, or cover points with focused explosions. Capable of destroying walls or close-range defensive lines.

4. Grenade launchers

Range covering 1–7 kilometers, firing high-arcing projectiles that effectively target defensive positions or front lines. Often used in combination with other weapons to maintain sustained pressure on an area.

5. PMN-2 anti-personnel mines

These are pressure-activated anti-personnel mines with built-in detonators, designed to injure personnel passing over them. It is believed Cambodia has laid or used these mines along the border areas.

6. Improvised explosive devices (IEDs)

Weapons intended to destroy personnel or vehicles, typically placed along strategic routes or locations where Thai forces are expected to pass. Cambodia has used at least two sets of these explosives against Thailand.

7. BM-21 multiple rocket launchers

Range covering 20–40 kilometers, a system for saturating areas with rocket fire. Fires in large volleys to destroy wide areas. Cambodia has used BM-21 rockets against Thailand no fewer than 204 times, severely impacting multiple border locations.

8. Rocket-propelled grenades

High-explosive rounds used to attack broad areas and supplement BM-21 system fire. Cambodia has fired no fewer than 8,160 such rounds into Thailand.

9. FPV suicide drones

A modern weapon involving drones modified to carry explosives and directly strike targets with high precision. Capable of targeting vehicles or strategic points specifically. Cambodia has used FPV drones against Thailand at least 63 times, deploying 125 drones in total, representing a new threat that significantly pressures Thai forces.

The Thai military firmly confirms it will take all possible measures to maintain public security, protect sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national dignity decisively and thoroughly, while closely monitoring the ongoing situation.
