Summary of 3 Relief Measures for Severe Flooding in Southern Thailand

Summary of 3 relief measures for severe flooding in Southern Thailand: flood relief payments of 9,000 baht per household begin, alongside debt moratorium measures; compensation of 2 million baht per deceased victim.

On 2 December 2025 GMT+7, Mr. Siripong Angkasunklit, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced the Cabinet meeting results at Government House. The Cabinet approved the criteria for funeral expense payments for deaths caused by flooding in Songkhla Province and authorized the use of the 2026 budget (central emergency reserve) to support funeral expenses of 2,000,000 baht per case, divided equally as 1,000,000 baht from the Disaster Relief Fund under the Prime Minister's Office and 1,000,000 baht from the central budget.

Additionally, the Cabinet approved the use of central funds to support the Songkhla Provincial Administrative Organization with a total of 530 million baht to accelerate the restoration of living conditions and areas for affected residents.

The flood relief measures for Southern Thailand consist of three main aspects:

1. A principal and interest moratorium program for Southern flood victims, covering up to 1 million baht, with a moratorium period of up to one year.

2. A relief loan program enabling victims to borrow up to 100,000 baht interest-free for one year, with a three-year contract, aimed at recovery and livelihood restoration.

3. A housing repair loan program allowing loans up to 100,000 baht interest-free for one year, with a three-year contract term.

Measures for compensating the deceased victims.

Regarding the 2 million baht compensation per deceased victim, Mr. Siripong stated that currently the Cabinet approval covers only areas declared emergency zones in Songkhla Province; other provinces will be discussed further soon.

Meanwhile, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reported progress on transferring aid funds for flood victims during the 2025 rainy season, based on Cabinet resolutions dated 21 October, and 18 and 25 November 2025. This payment is a lump sum disbursed via PromptPay accounts at all banks.

Regarding flood relief payments of 9,000 baht per household, the criteria are as follows:

1. Permanent residence flooded for no more than 7 days, with property damage.

2. Permanent residence flooded for more than 7 days.

3. Permanent residence surrounded by floodwaters causing disruption to normal living conditions for more than 7 consecutive days.

4. Permanent residence in a multi-story building where floodwaters did not reach the resident's floor but still caused disruption to normal living conditions for more than 7 consecutive days.

Flood victims can register their intention to claim relief via the website https://flood68.disaster.go.th. After confirming in the system, they should contact local administrative organizations or community leaders to verify the impact.

The DDPM emphasizes that people who have not yet linked their PromptPay accounts using their national ID numbers should visit any bank promptly to link their accounts. This is to prevent issues in transferring flood relief funds and to ensure aid is delivered quickly and comprehensively.
