According to the latest situation summary on 27 Dec 2025 after signing the Joint Statement of the Thailand-Cambodia General Border Committee (GBC) special session, the Thai military, through the First and Second Army Regions, successfully "regained and controlled" key areas that had previously been contested and encroached upon, as follows:
The Burapha Task Force conducted military operations to push back and recapture border villages in Ta Phraya and Khok Sung districts, which were sites of intense clashes during December. The recaptured areas include:
Ban Khlong Paeng (Ta Phraya District): The area was successfully retaken and controlled on 24 Dec 2025 after Cambodia attempted to reinforce and resisted with artillery fire.
Ban Nong Chan (Khok Sung District): The area was recaptured and a stronghold established on 26 Dec 2025 despite heavy bombardment by Cambodian forces using grenade launchers and artillery prior to the ceasefire.
Ban Nong Ya Kaeo (Khok Sung District): Another strategic location fully secured by Thai forces before the ceasefire time of 12:00 noon.
The Second Army Region reported successful operations to recapture a key strategic area along the Prasat Ta Kwai frontline:
Hill 225 (Prasat Ta Kwai frontline, Surin Province): The Second Army Region announced successful recapture of this area on 25 Dec 2025 and currently maintains forces to secure and adapt defensive positions in accordance with the ceasefire agreement.
Under the 16-point ceasefire agreement, both sides agreed to:
Maintain forces in place: No troop movements or advances into new areas are permitted.
Observe a 72-hour monitoring period: This serves as a test of sincerity; if no violations occur, Thailand will consider repatriating 18 captured Cambodian soldiers taken during the clashes in these areas.
Civilian return to the area: The military currently requests residents in four districts of Sa Kaeo Province to await official announcements, as clearance and landmine removal must be completed per the agreement before resettlement.
