The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) today (16 Jan 2026) at 09:00 announced that six central provinces—Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, and Samut Prakan—as well as Bangkok, should closely monitor the high tide situation from 18 to 22 January 2026.
The provinces have been instructed to inform businesses and residents living along both sides of rivers and canals, especially in low-lying flood-prone areas near waterways, to watch water levels closely and prepare for potential flooding. They should also coordinate with local authorities and related agencies to inspect flood barriers, prepare disaster relief equipment and machinery, monitor the situation continuously, and be ready to assist the public around the clock.
Mr. Theerapat Kachamat, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), revealed that the DDPM, acting as the Central Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command Center (CDPMCC), has received information from the Hydrographic Department of the Royal Thai Navy about Announcement No. 1/2569 dated 14 January 2026. It concerns water levels in the Chao Phraya River near the Royal Thai Navy Headquarters, Phra Chulachomklao Fort, and nearby areas from 18 to 22 January 2026. The period from 07:00 to 10:00 is expected to see the highest tides, which may cause riverbanks to overflow, raising water levels in rivers and canals, potentially flooding low-lying riverside areas, communities outside flood barriers, and temporary embankments where permanent flood defenses (so-called "leaky spots") do not exist. The areas to be monitored during 18-22 January 2026 are as follows.
The six central provinces and Bangkok include: Pathum Thani Province (Mueang Pathum Thani and Sam Khok districts), Nonthaburi Province (Mueang Nonthaburi, Pak Kret, and Bang Kruai districts), Nakhon Pathom Province (Bang Len, Nakhon Chai Si, and Sam Phran districts), Samut Sakhon Province (all districts), Samut Songkhram Province (Mueang Samut Songkhram district), and Samut Prakan Province (Mueang Samut Prakan, Phra Samut Chedi, Phra Pradaeng, and Bang Bo districts).
The Central Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command Center (CDPMCC), through the DDPM, has coordinated to notify these six central provinces and Bangkok to monitor the high tide situation closely. Provinces are asked to inform the public about the timing of high tides and alert related agencies and private sector operators along rivers and canals, such as those involved in flood barrier construction, riverside restaurants, and residents in flood-prone low-lying riverside areas, to remain vigilant and follow the situation closely. They should also prepare disaster relief machinery and operational teams to be stationed at risk areas to respond immediately and assist affected residents.
Residents can follow disaster alerts via the “THAI DISASTER ALERT” application. If affected by the situation, they can report incidents and request assistance through the LINE account “DDPM Incident Reporting 1784” by adding the friend Line ID @1784DDPM or by calling the 1784 emergency hotline, available 24 hours a day, to coordinate prompt assistance.
