Summary of Voting and Referendum Procedures for the 2026 Election on 8 Feb 2026

The 2026 election summary outlines the voting and referendum procedures on Sunday, 8 February 2026. The House of Representatives election and the referendum will be held on the same day, with each eligible voter receiving three ballots at once.

Here is a summary of the voting process from start to finish.

1. Preparation before election day.

  • Check your name: Verify your voter number and polling station from the notification letter sent to your household (by 18 Jan 2026) or check via the Smart Vote or ThaID apps.

  • Advance voting registration: If you cannot vote on 8 Feb, you must register for advance voting between 20 Dec 2025 and 5 Jan 2026 to vote on 1 Feb 2026.

  • Prepare identification: Use your ID card (expired cards still accepted), driver's license, passport, or government-issued photo ID with a 13-digit number (including digital IDs on the ThaID app or DLT QR Licence).

2. Procedures on election day (8 February 2026).

Upon arrival at the polling station (from 08:00 to 17:00), follow these steps:

Part 1: Voting for the House of Representatives (receive 2 ballots).

  1. Verify your name: Check your number on the voter list at the polling station.

  2. Identification: Present your ID card to the official and sign or fingerprint the voter list and ballot stub.

  3. Receive 2 House of Representatives ballots:

    • Green ballot: vote for a constituency candidate (choose a person).

    • Pink ballot: vote for a party list (choose a party).

Part 2: Referendum voting (receive 1 ballot).

Show identification to receive the referendum ballot: After signing for the House ballots, proceed within the same polling station to sign for the referendum ballot.

Receive 1 yellow ballot: to vote “approve” or “disapprove” on the referendum question (usually related to the draft constitution).

3. Entering the voting booth and casting your votes.

  1. Enter the booth and mark an X in only one box per ballot.

  2. Fold all three ballots and personally place each into the corresponding ballot box (for constituency House vote, party list House vote, and referendum).
