What to Do If Election Campaign Signs Obstruct Visibility

During election campaigns, signs of candidates or political parties often block visibility in certain areas, impacting local residents. Complaints can be made to have those signs removed.

In cases where people are affected by election campaign signs from candidates for the House of Representatives or various political parties—such as signs obstructing traffic routes or disturbing pedestrians and drivers—there are several solutions. However, one strictly forbidden action is destroying election signs, as this is illegal.

Absolutely prohibited!! Whether it is

tearing

burning

cutting

scraping

scribbling

spraying paint or painting over the messages

moving

stealing

toppling the signs

or any action that damages the signs—even if claimed to be "just a prank or joke"—is illegal. Penalties include imprisonment up to six months, a fine up to 10,000 baht, or both.

So, what should you do if you are affected by election campaign signs?

There are mainly two ways:

1. Contact the candidate or their political party directly. Nowadays, every House of Representatives candidate and political party has social media channels through which the public can communicate directly. Upon receiving a complaint, the candidate or party will promptly fix or relocate the sign.

2. Report to the district office or local administrative office, which will coordinate with the candidate and party. If the candidate or party does not act within 48 hours, government officials will step in to resolve the issue.

Following these steps can help solve problems caused by campaign signs blocking visibility in the area without breaking the law.
