The 2026 House of Representatives election is set to become another significant milestone in Thai politics. After a political cycle marked by power shifts and the emergence of a new generation in the political arena, the constituency MPs remain central to determining which party will lead the government formation.

How many constituency MPs will there be in 2026?

According to the current amended constitution, the election will use a "two-ballot" system, divided as follows:

Constituency MPs: 400 seats (one for each of the 400 constituencies nationwide)

Party-list MPs: 100 seats

For a total of 500 MPs. In each constituency, only one representative is elected; the candidate with the highest votes wins immediately. This makes competition at the local level more intense and fierce than in the party-list system.

Number of constituency MP candidates

The Election Commission has summarized that there are 3,526 constituency MP candidates. For party-list MPs, 1,570 candidates come from 57 political parties, with 94 prime ministerial candidates nominated. The official candidate list will be announced on 7 Jan 2026.

Lieutenant Pasakorn Siriphakayaporn, Deputy Secretary-General of the Election Commission, summarized the overall candidate registration for constituency MPs and party-list MPs, as well as prime ministerial candidates nominated by political parties after the registration deadline. There are 3,526 constituency MP candidates from 60 political parties contesting the 400 constituencies. For party-list MPs, 1,570 candidates come from 57 parties. Prime ministerial candidates number 94 from 43 parties. The constituency with the highest number of candidates is Bangkok's 30th district, with 19 candidates. Next, the Election Commission will send data to 26 agencies to verify qualifications and disqualifications before returning the information to the constituency election directors and the Election Commission to announce the final candidate list by 7 Jan 2026.
