Border Patrol Police Survey Their Arsenal for Border Defense Effectiveness

The Border Patrol Police (BPP) is a unique agency described as "police trained and armed like soldiers" to carry out missions along border areas and counterinsurgency. Therefore, the BPP's arsenal is diverse, ranging from light to heavy weapons as follows:

1. Assault Rifles

These are the primary weapons used for patrolling and national defense.

  • M16A1 / A2 / A4: The standard rifles long in use.

  • M4A1 Carbine: Used by special operations units such as the paratrooper unit (BPP at Naresuan Camp).

  • SIG Sauer MCX: A newer model being procured for elite-level units.

  • Galil: An Israeli rifle previously purchased for use in some areas.

2. Handguns and Submachine Guns

Used for maintaining order and close-range operations.

  • Glock 17 / 19: Popular standard handguns.

  • Sig Sauer P320: Procured under the police welfare firearm project.

  • HK MP5: Standard submachine gun for hostage rescue or VIP protection.

3. Support and Heavy Weapons

Due to threats along the border, the BPP is equipped with weapons having greater destructive power than regular police.

  • M60 / M240: Light machine guns mounted on vehicles or operational bases.

  • M2 Browning (.50 Cal): Heavy machine gun mounted on V-150 vehicles or fortification turrets.

  • M79 / M203: 40mm grenade launchers.

  • RPG / M72 LAW: Anti-tank and bunker-busting weapons adapted for border clashes.

  • Mortars: 60mm and 81mm sizes for central fire support.

4. Vehicles and Aircraft

  • V-150: Wheeled armored vehicle symbolizing the BPP in border patrol.

  • Helicopters (Bell 212 / 412): Under the police aviation unit supporting BPP missions in remote areas.

Note: The BPP's weapons emphasize durability and easy logistics support with the army, as in wartime, the BPP is assigned to assist national defense alongside the military.
