Free dental check: The Department of Health has launched an AI-based oral health screening for 11 conditions, accessible easily by mobile phone through the "Rak Yim" app, now ready for immediate use.
Good news: Now you can perform a basic oral health check yourself simply by taking photos inside your mouth using the "Rak Yim" app.
The Dental Public Health Bureau of the Department of Health has developed an oral health screening system using Artificial Intelligence (AI). This AI model was trained with an annotated dataset of over 6,000 oral images. It can identify 11 conditions and abnormalities of the teeth and oral tissues, including tooth decay, abrasion from brushing, attrition from chewing, fluorosis, metal fillings, tartar, gingivitis, fissured tongue, geographic tongue, atrophic tongue, and coated tongue, along with initial care recommendations before seeing a dentist.
1. Press the “Scan” button, the circle at the bottom center of the app.
2. Take photos of your teeth and gums using your phone or upload previously taken images. For clearer pictures, it is recommended to use the rear camera to photograph one quarter of the mouth at a time, such as the lower left teeth.
3. Wait for the AI to analyze the images.
4. The system will highlight areas with issues in the image and provide initial advice.
This AI-based preliminary dental check helps you identify oral problems earlier before they worsen, aiding in deciding when to visit a dentist. It is also convenient and can be done anywhere, anytime.
Good oral health starts with early detection.
