A Thousand Tourists Daily Visit Takwai Castle and Hill 350, Boosting Local Economy

About a thousand tourists visit Takwai Castle and Hill 350 each day, generating income for local residents and invigorating the community economy. The 2nd Army Region has opened the sites for visits until 16 April.

After the clashes along the Thailand-Cambodia border subsided, the 2nd Army Region opened Takwai Castle and Hill 350 for public and tourist visits for the first time in a year, from 13 to 16 April 2026, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., in Bakdai Subdistrict, Phanom Dong Rak District, Surin Province. This allows people to pay respects to sacred sites, remember the bravery of soldiers, and explore important historical locations.

The 2nd Army Region, through the Tourist Facilitation Command at Takwai Castle and Hill 350, reported on tourist assistance and facilitation on 14 April 2026 as follows.

The 22nd Infantry Regiment provided services to tourists visiting Takwai Castle, including publicizing rules for visiting the ancient site. A total of 3,696 tourists visited that day, with 946 shuttle vehicles transporting visitors.

More than 10 local vendors operated stalls, generating income for the local community.

At the same time, assistance was provided to 32 tourists who became ill during their visit. Operations proceeded smoothly with no unusual incidents.

This area was previously a fierce battlefield during two major clashes in 2025 (July and December), when Cambodian forces used Takwai Castle as a base. The historic site was heavily damaged by fighting, and the surrounding area remains risky due to unexploded ordnance, especially around Hill 350, which was a key strategic point.
