Portrait of the Queen in Traditional Thai Attire During Royal Visit to Sweden

Portrait of the Queen in traditional Thai dress during the royal visit to Sweden from 29 April to 2 May 2026, at the invitation of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.

His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen of Thailand made a royal visit to the Kingdom of Sweden from 29 April to 2 May 2026, at the invitation of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.

Thai textiles on the global stage: The Queen wore Lamphun brocade silk during the first day of the royal visit to Sweden. Her Majesty Queen Suthida Patcharasuthapimol appeared elegantly in a long-sleeve black column coat dress made from "Lamphun brocade silk with butterfly pattern," a precious handicraft from Srimuang Yu village in Lamphun province.

The fabric features silver-thread weaving in an antique silver tone, offering a refined and contemporary feel. It is enhanced with delicate hand embroidery using small black beads and crystals scattered across the dress, perfectly reflecting the exquisite craftsmanship of Thai artisans with a global appeal.

This outfit not only showcases royal beauty and appropriate ceremonial attire at the state level but also represents the pride of Thai citizens seeing regional cultural heritage honored on the international stage. Choosing Lamphun brocade silk for this important occasion reflects a royal determination to preserve and elevate Thai handicrafts, demonstrating their beauty and unique value to the world, continuing the legacy of Sataporn.

On 30 April 2026 at 9:30 a.m. local time, His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen traveled by royal car from the Grand Hotel in Stockholm, Kingdom of Sweden, to the Royal Palace in Stockholm to attend the royal ceremony celebrating the 80th birthday of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.

Upon arrival, King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, accompanied by the Swedish royal family, welcomed them. They proceeded to the Royal Cathedral to participate in a ceremony honoring and giving thanks to God. Afterwards, they went to the forecourt of the Royal Palace, where the King took his seat to observe the changing of the royal guards and listen to the choral singing of well-wishes for King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden.

Then, the royal bus took them to Stockholm City Hall to attend a luncheon in honor of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, hosted by the Stockholm City Council. After the event, they returned by royal bus to the Grand Hotel in Stockholm, Kingdom of Sweden.

Her Majesty Queen Suthida Patcharasuthapimol chose to wear the exquisite golden brown "Boromphiman Thai dress," a royal style Thai outfit emphasizing utmost formality. It is made from finely woven gold brocade fabric. The dress features a round collar with a standing edge and long sleeves sewn to a pleated skirt with a traditional front box pleat and a ceremonial side panel, complemented by a traditional Thai belt, enhancing the overall elegant and regal appearance appropriate for an international evening ceremony.

This outfit is not only beautiful attire but also serves as a cultural ambassador expressing the delicate artistry, grace, and distinctive Thai identity to foreign royals. It reflects the Queen’s firm commitment to "preserving, maintaining, and advancing" Thai arts, culture, and handicrafts inherited from ancestors, ensuring they remain proud and prominent on the global stage.

"Diamond Fringe Tiara": A royal heritage crossing kingdoms onto the world stage in Stockholm.

At the royal dinner hosted by King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden at the Royal Palace in Stockholm on 30 April 2026, Her Majesty the Queen wore a long evening gown made from Thai silk mixed with lace embroidered with silver threads, adorned with the precious "Diamond Fringe Tiara," marking the first time in the current reign that this historic royal heirloom has been displayed publicly again.

This diamond tiara has been passed down through several reigns, clearly documented in portraits of Queen Ramphai Phanni of the seventh reign. Later, Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother, inherited this heirloom and wore it on many important occasions, including the official royal visit to Sweden in 2003. In the current reign, Her Majesty the Queen has once again brought this tiara back to Sweden.

A unique feature of this tiara is its design, which can be worn both as a tiara and a necklace, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship of high-end jewelry that seamlessly blends Western influence with the refined tastes of the Thai royal court.

Wearing this tiara on the night of the royal ceremony in Stockholm symbolizes the continuation of the Thai royal heritage, beautifully displayed before leaders and royal families from around the world, befitting its honor.
