Tone Bangkae is undeniably one of the most influential amulet experts in the digital age, boasting a huge following on his Facebook page. However, behind this polished success story lies a beginning far from smooth, marked by "trial and error" and adventures starting in elementary school.
Though his nickname includes "Bangkae," leading many to misunderstand, Tone explained on the Thairath Talk program that he was actually born in Phetchabun Province, his mother's hometown. Fate changed when his parents separated, and his grandmother took him to raise in Bangkok's Bangmod neighborhood instead.
"I'm not from Bangkae; I just grew up there."
Tone's journey into the amulet world didn't start from faith but from childhood "curiosity" and "mischief." He frankly shared that it began with taking amulets from his grandmother's second-floor shrine room to sell.
Childhood logic: Grandma taught him "never take others' things," so he reasoned "taking things from my own home is okay."
His first sale was to a local uncle, earning only a few tens of baht, but it sparked his desire to discover the true value of amulets.
After earning money from selling amulets, Tone didn't waste it on aimless fun. Instead, he bought "amulet books" to study and wondered why amulet markets were centered around "Tha Phra Chan" or "Wat Ratchanadda."
Driven by curiosity at just fourth grade, he made a bold decision to:
skip school and take the bus alone to the Tha Phra Chan amulet market.
This trip opened his eyes to the full world of amulet trading, revealing true prices and the complex techniques of authenticating amulets.
