DDPM Warns Nationwide Including Bangkok to Watch for Flash Floods and Flashy Floods on 20-21 May 2026

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has issued an urgent announcement for all provinces nationwide, including Bangkok, to prepare for heavy rainfall that may cause flashy floods, flash floods, and waterlogging, particularly in six southern provinces where strong waves and winds must be monitored from 19 to 21 May 2026.

Mr. Chaiwat Juntirapong, Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), revealed that, based on weather monitoring in cooperation with the Meteorological Department, the southwest monsoon is quite strong, causing increased and heavy rainfall in some areas. The following areas are under watch:


Areas to monitor for flashy floods, flash floods, and waterlogging.

Northern region (17 provinces): Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Phrae, Nan, Uttaradit, Tak, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Phitsanulok, Phichit, Phetchabun, Nakhon Sawan, and Uthai Thani.

Northeastern region (20 provinces): Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani.

Central region (25 provinces): Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Suphan Buri, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Ang Thong, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Lopburi, Saraburi, Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, and Samut Prakan.

Southern region (14 provinces): Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, and Satun.

Areas to monitor for strong waves and winds (6 southern provinces).

Ranong: Mueang District, Suk Samran District, Kapoe District.

Phang Nga: Ko Yao District, Takua Thung District, Thai Muang District, Takua Pa District, Khura Buri District.

Phuket: All districts.

Krabi: Mueang District, Khlong Thom District, Ko Lanta District, Nuea Khlong District, Ao Luek District.

Trang: Kantang District, Sikao District, Palian District, Hat Samran District.

Satun: Mueang District, Langu District, Thung Wa District, Tha Phae District.

Preparation measures by officials.

The Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Operations Center has coordinated with all provinces to assemble operational teams and disaster machinery at risk points to provide immediate assistance to the public in case of incidents, as well as to accelerate water drainage in low-lying areas to minimize impact as much as possible.
