Thai Chua Thai Plus Welfare Cardholders Do Not Need to Re-register How to Use Without Losing Benefits

"Thai Chua Thai Plus" welfare cardholders do not need to re-register. Instructions are provided on how to use the benefits without losing eligibility, with money transfers scheduled from June to September 2026. If there is remaining money on the card, it cannot be carried over to the following month.

After the Cabinet approved the "Thai Chua Thai Plus" program to reduce the impact of the energy crisis affecting people across all professions on 19 May 2026, confusion arose about whether state welfare cardholders must re-register like the general public. Some reports incorrectly stated that welfare cardholders needed to re-register to receive benefits.

Thairath Online contacted representatives from the Ministry of Finance, who confirmed that state welfare cardholders do not need to register again to receive benefits under the Thai Chua Thai Plus program. Instead, funds will be transferred directly to their welfare cards, which previously received 300 baht monthly but will now receive an additional 700 baht, totaling 1,000 baht. Eligibility requires being registered in the state welfare system before 18 May 2026.

State welfare cardholders will receive increased funds from 1 June to 30 September 2026. The 1,000 baht monthly credit from the Thai Chua Thai Plus program must be fully used within that month. Unused balances cannot be saved or combined with funds in subsequent months. After the program ends on 30 September 2026, any remaining money on the welfare card cannot be used thereafter.

The funds cover purchases of consumer goods, discounts on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), public transportation fares, and electricity and water bills. Additional welfare payments are also provided to people with disabilities. The program aims to increase welfare payments in 2026 to help ease living costs amid the rapidly worsening energy crisis that has negatively affected the confidence and purchasing power of low-income vulnerable groups, totaling approximately 13.18 million cardholders.

Additionally, welfare cardholders receive LPG purchase discounts of 80 baht per person every three months and 750 baht per person monthly for public transportation. Electricity subsidies are 315 baht per household monthly, water subsidies 100 baht per household monthly, and an extra 200 baht monthly disability allowance is given to disabled individuals who hold both a disability ID card and a welfare card.

The Ministry of Finance will expedite a new registration round for the state welfare system to screen applicants according to eligibility criteria for existing cardholders. Coordination with the Ministry of Interior will survey marginalized groups who have been overlooked to ensure the correct target groups are reached and that assistance aligns with current conditions. The Ministry of Finance will promptly present detailed plans to the Cabinet.
