Today, 20 May 2026 at 19:36, His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen departed to Amphorn Sathan Throne Hall, Dusit Palace, to grant the royal privilege for General Surayud Chulanont, President of the Privy Council, to lead Mom Luang Panadda Diskul, the Privy Councillor appointed by royal command, to pay homage and swear the oath before taking office.
The Constitution of the Kingdom of Thailand, B.E. 2560 (2017 CE), stipulates the Privy Council and its duties: The King selects and appoints a qualified President of the Privy Council and up to 18 other Privy Councillors. They are responsible for advising the King on all royal duties for which the King seeks counsel.
They also carry out missions as determined or assigned by the King. The selection, appointment, or removal of Privy Councillors is at the King's discretion, with the President of the Privy Council acting on the royal command to appoint or relieve Privy Councillors.
