For the faithful, the Poh Teck Tung Foundation has announced the inaugural opening date, preparing to welcome the public to worship and visit the “Tai Hong Kong White Jade Shrine Commemorating the 72nd Birthday,” a heritage site of compassion and a center for learning traditional Teochew cultural architecture on Charoen Rat Road, Sathorn District.
Starting from Monday, 25 May 2026 onwards.
Opening hours: Open daily (Monday to Sunday) from 07:00 to 18:00.
This shrine has been graciously granted a royal name to honor His Majesty the King on the occasion of his 72nd birthday. Inside is a replica statue of Luang Pu Tai Hong (Tai Hong Gong) carved from "white jade," one of the largest in Thailand, alongside eight important Chinese bodhisattvas and deities.
A must-see when visiting is the majestic “stone lion” pair at the shrine’s entrance, designed in the architectural style of Beijing’s imperial palaces. A special feature is their bowed heads, symbolizing a warm welcome to visitors, with auspicious meanings distinguished by gender as follows:
Male lion (north side) places its paw on a ball, symbolizing power, prestige, and protection.
Female lion (south side) plays with a ball under her paw, representing abundance and compassionate grace for followers.
Belief note: The stone lions here are not consecrated by the traditional eye-dotting ceremony, based on ancient belief that once their eyes are dotted, the lions might roam at night and neglect their duty to guard the site.
The shrine provides incense, joss paper, and gold and silver papers free of charge to devotees, along with Luang Pu Tai Hong’s talisman (red amulet) for good fortune. Donations are welcome according to one’s faith to support the charitable work of the Poh Teck Tung Foundation.
