Roblox, an online gaming platform, offers 4 ways to stay alert and avoid falling into scams that could lead to financial loss, along with recommendations for parents to watch their children from a distance.
Roblox is a globally popular online gaming platform that allows all players to create their own games, play games made by others, or chat freely with players worldwide. The games available are often called "maps," and currently, there are millions of these maps within the platform.
“For example, if you want to play a fighting game, Roblox has it. If you want to play a ghost game, Roblox has that too. Simply put, it offers many game types, similar to Y8,” said Khun Aom, owner of the TikTok channel xAom - ExAom, a content creator focusing on Roblox.
Additionally, Roblox includes chat features for both text messaging and voice communication. The developers have safety policies that include identity and age verification before enabling these features. If the system detects offensive language, accounts are suspended. There is also an age-matching system to pair users with similar ages for youth protection.
However, even with in-game security measures, scammers continue to find ways to deceive players, especially young children who make up the majority of users. Therefore, players must take steps to protect themselves. Khun Aom recommends the following safety tips:
1. Use different passwords across platforms: Avoid using the same password repeatedly on all apps because if one account is hacked, scammers cannot access your other accounts.
2. Enable Two-Factor Authentication: This two-step verification system (such as sending an OTP code to email or phone) adds an extra layer of security, making it much harder to hack your information.
3. Do not click suspicious links: Avoid falling for ads promising "free items" or "free Robux" and carefully check the spelling of website links every time, as scammers often use slight letter swaps to mimic official sites to steal information.
4. Parents should activate Parental Control: This feature helps limit inappropriate content, manage screen time, and effectively monitor the location and online activities of their children.
Hacking Roblox is possible, but not instantly. Most cases result from users leaking their own information, clicking suspicious links, or sharing their passwords with others, Khun Aom explained regarding this issue.
Ultimately, Roblox is not just an ordinary online gaming platform; it is like a double-edged sword offering both opportunities and dangers. On one side, it is a limitless imaginative space that fosters creativity, builds new friendships, and can even develop into a real income career for the new generation. On the other side, it is a place where scammers seek to exploit children’s innocence. Therefore, the key is not to "ban playing" but to "play with awareness and understanding."
