Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabhas Global Excellence in Advancing Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption

Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavati, Princess Rajasarinisirinpatchar Mahavajraratchathida, has undertaken royal duties promoting the rule of law, justice, and international cooperation in preventing and combating corruption. She has continuously utilized her legal and judicial expertise to advance Thailand’s role on the international stage, earning widespread global recognition.

Role at the United Nations and Building International Cooperation

While serving as Thailand’s Extraordinary Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Vienna and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna, Austria, she played a key role in promoting international cooperation on crime prevention, rule of law, and anti-corruption under the United Nations framework.

Her brilliance and expertise in the justice system were evident when she was elected Chair of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), a significant international position reflecting the global community’s confidence in her vision and ability to promote justice and good governance.

Elevating Anti-Corruption Efforts through the IACA Forum

In anti-corruption work, she played a crucial role in advancing the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA), an international organization established to develop knowledge, research, and personnel capacity for anti-corruption efforts worldwide, with key milestones as follows.

On 29–30 November 2012 in Vienna, Austria, she led the Thai delegation to participate in the first Assembly of Parties meeting of IACA.

Her global recognition includes being elected Vice-Chair of the first Assembly of Parties as the representative of the Asia-Pacific group for a one-year term, reflecting acceptance of her role in international anti-corruption efforts.

In her speech, she emphasized that although the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) is an important international legal framework, success depends on each state party’s ability to effectively develop laws, institutions, and personnel to keep up with ever-changing forms of corruption.

Hosting the World Assembly She announced Thailand’s readiness to host the second Assembly of Parties meeting of IACA in Bangkok in 2013, which was successfully held and contributed significantly to elevating Thailand as a regional hub for anti-corruption cooperation.

UNODC Goodwill Ambassador and Lasting Contributions

Her contributions have been vital in promoting international cooperation in preventing and combating corruption, as well as developing capacity in justice systems and law enforcement, which are foundational to building societies committed to good governance, transparency, and the rule of law.

She has also continuously supported the United Nations’ work on rule of law, human rights protection, and access to justice, leading to her appointment as Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for Rule of Law in Southeast Asia—further proof of her distinguished international recognition and dedication to the benefit of the people and global community.

Her work promoting transparency, rule of law, and anti-corruption not only benefits Thailand but also inspires organizations and personnel worldwide involved in preventing and combating corruption to jointly build a society that is honest, transparent, and just in a sustainable way.
