The government is launching a major measure as the Royal Thai Police collaborate with the Department of Land Transport to sign an MOU linking new traffic fine data. Many drivers may be used to "ignoring" traffic fines sent to their homes and leaving them unpaid, resulting in tens of millions of outstanding fines. This affects traffic discipline and overall road safety... But from 1 August 2026 onwards, this behavior will no longer be tolerated.
As the Royal Thai Police collaborate with the Department of Land Transport to integrate a new traffic fine data system, those thinking of evading fines should prepare for three direct impacts when renewing annual vehicle tax.
1. Loss of right to receive the "official tax sticker" When renewing annual vehicle tax at the Department of Land Transport, even if you pay the regular vehicle tax, the system will lock your account so you receive only a "temporary document" (valid 30 days) and will not get the official tax sticker (round sticker) until all fines are fully paid.
2. Risk of additional fines for "not displaying tax sticker" If the temporary document expires (after 30 days) and you have not paid the fines to receive the official tax sticker, driving the vehicle on the road will be an offense for "using a vehicle without a tax display," which carries additional penalties under traffic laws.
3. Outstanding fine data displayed clearly at tax renewal points The new system links data in real time. Transport officials will see all outstanding fine histories, including copies of the fines, notification documents, and postal delivery receipts immediately—no evasion possible.
On 23 July 2026 at 16:00, at the Royal Thai Police headquarters, a signing ceremony took place for the first amendment to the MOU on electronic data linking to enhance enforcement of road traffic laws.

Along with executives from the Digital Government Development Agency (DGA), Krung Thai Bank Public Company Limited, and other relevant government agencies.
This signing aligns with government policy and the 2022–2027 Road Safety Master Plan aiming to reduce traffic deaths to 12 per 100,000 population, consistent with United Nations guidelines. Effective law enforcement is key to solving the problem.
This new linked traffic fine data system is not designed solely for punishment but has been improved to comply with the rule of law and align with Administrative Court rulings, facilitating convenience and transparency so citizens can check their data before paying fines, as follows:
Verification via system: immediate access to copies of fines and notification documents.
Transparency of procedures: ability to view postal delivery receipt evidence.
Verification of issuing officers: clear information about the traffic officers who issued fines.
Convenience at service points: if outstanding fines are found when renewing tax, you can check and pay fines directly with the transport registrar immediately.

Traffic violations will be issued under the new fine format, and notification letters will be sent according to the law.
If fines remain unpaid, the outstanding fine data will be sent directly to the Department of Land Transport.
When renewing annual vehicle tax at the transport office, the system will immediately display outstanding fine information.
Pay in full: pay fines at the transport service point immediately and receive the official tax sticker.
Refuse to pay: you will receive only a temporary 30-day document (no official tax sticker).
