Exposing the Land Bridge Project: Government Halts Construction Plan as Costs Outweigh Benefits and Natural Resources Are Depleted

The SEETRUE news team exposes the 'Land Bridge' project before the government orders the construction plan to be shelved, describing it as "not worth the cost" and a drain on natural resources.

Mr. Akniti Nitithanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, acting as chairman of the committee studying ways to drive the Land Bridge project, reported on the progress of the impact study following the Prime Minister's directive to complete it within 90 days. He stated that the study found the likelihood of proceeding with the Land Bridge project to be low due to budgetary risks and various other concerns.

The committee therefore resolved to compile a report to present to the Prime Minister and Cabinet, recommending the termination of the project in its original form. Additionally, there are significant risks to the marine ecosystem. This project serves as an important lesson in infrastructure strategy, emphasizing the need to consider cost-effectiveness, environmental impact, and comprehensive public consultation.

The Land Bridge project is a mega-investment worth one trillion baht. The SEE TRUE investigative team from Thairath TV conducted an in-depth three-part series covering local residents' opposition to the Land Bridge, fearing impacts on their way of life and natural resources across two provinces.

The investigation also delved into suspicious land acquisitions by intermediaries. The full reports are available for review. Here
