Silpakorn University Wang Tha Phra is preparing to welcome spiritual devotees and believers to uphold the grand tradition at the "Ganesh Chaturthi at Wang Tha Phra 2nd Edition," a festival celebrating the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha, the god of success and wisdom, organized by the Student Organization of Silpakorn University Wang Tha Phra in collaboration with the Bharata Cultural Club.
The event invites participants to add color to the atmosphere by dressing in Indian-style clothing such as draping a sari, wearing a dhoti, or donning a kurta, along with bright, auspicious colors. Participants are kindly asked to avoid wearing exclusively white or black outfits.
According to Brahmin-Hindu beliefs, Lord Ganesha is the son of Shiva and Parvati. He is uniquely characterized by an elephant head on a human body. The legend begins with Parvati creating him to guard her while bathing, but a misunderstanding with Shiva led to his original head being lost. Shiva then replaced it with the head of a northern-facing elephant and bestowed upon him the title "Ganesh," the supreme lord over gods and obstacles.
In Thailand, Lord Ganesha is highly revered as the supreme teacher of all arts and sciences and serves as the symbol of Silpakorn University. People commonly pray to him for success in education, work, arts and entertainment, and for removing obstacles in life.
