Economic Party Policy Summary: Death Penalty for Corruption, High-Speed Rail Linking Foreign Countries, Justice System Reform with New Investigation Department

Summary of the Economic Party's policies: death penalty for corruption, construction of high-speed rail connecting foreign countries, justice system reform with establishment of a new department to handle investigations instead of the police, and more.

The Economic Party, led by Gen. Rangsi Kitiyantrasap, launched four main policies under the slogan “Thailand Comes First,” reflecting their commitment to prioritize national interests above all else. They also announced Gen. Rangsi as the party's sole prime ministerial candidate to contest the upcoming 2026 general election scheduled for 8 Feb 2026 GMT+7.

The Economic Party's four flagship policies

1. Construction of high-speed rail

  • They aim to promote a high-speed rail project to position Thailand as the ASEAN rail transport hub, connecting with China’s Belt and Road Initiative and linking Laos, Myanmar, India, Malaysia, and Singapore, elevating the country to a global logistics center.
  • They designate both sides along the railway line as “Agricultural estates” and “Industrial estates.” The agricultural estates will have their own fertilizer factories, drone centers for agriculture, and harvesting vehicle centers funded by the government and available for public lease. There will also be rice mills with government certification and foreign market liaison. For the industrial estates, it is expected that once high-speed rail is established, foreign manufacturers will relocate here. The party will also promote agricultural processing industries to add value.

2. OCEAN LINK

  • This policy opens a new shipping route connecting the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand to boost regional trade, investment, and tourism capabilities.
  • They plan to establish coastal agricultural industrial zones to attract BRICS investors to Thailand, aiming to raise citizens’ income to 20,000 USD per year within 10 years, thereby creating jobs, increasing income, and stimulating the coastal economy.

3. ZERO CORRUPTION

  • They propose a new anti-corruption law imposing the maximum penalty of death for civil servants violating Article 157, applying equally to both bribe givers and takers. There will be no sentence reductions but a one-year appeal period to enhance transparency, decisively reduce corruption, and build confidence among citizens and investors.

4. Justice system reform

  • They plan to improve the justice process from the initial stage with the police to the final stage with the Department of Corrections, breaking systemic crime cycles. Arresting will be separated from investigation to ensure justice, transparency, reduce inequality, and increase efficiency. Police will handle arrest and investigation, while a newly established department by the Economic Party will handle investigation and forensic evidence. Both units will then forward offenders and evidence to prosecutors for filing charges and courts for judgment.
