Navy Updates on Aid to Crew of Mayuree Naree Attacked in the Strait of Hormuz

The Navy provided an update on its assistance to the crew of the "Mayuree Naree" attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, expediting coordination for a second rescue team and awaiting investigation findings from the ship's captain.

The conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States has expanded to include the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Recently, the Thai-flagged vessel "Mayuree Naree" was attacked by the Iranian military. Questions have arisen about why the Thai ship sailed through an area under warnings, with answers expected from those aboard the vessel.

Regarding the crew's rescue, Thairath Online’s special task force interviewed Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaiyaphan, Navy spokesperson, who reported that rescue efforts involve coordination between the Thai and Omani navies. The operation is divided into two phases, with strong cooperation from the Omani Navy.

In the first phase, the Thai Navy coordinated with the Omani Navy to rescue the initial group of 20 crew members who evacuated the ship using life rafts. The Omani Navy facilitated their safe transfer ashore in Oman. These crew members are now under the care of the Thai embassy and the agency responsible for subsequent arrangements.

The second phase involves operations to rescue the remaining crew members still aboard the ship.

After reports indicated some crew remained on the vessel, the Thai Navy Commander contacted his Omani counterpart to thank them for the initial assistance and to request further support in evacuating the remaining crew.

Because the area is highly dangerous due to the recent attack, rescue teams must exercise extreme caution when accessing the site.

Coordination efforts are ongoing with the Northern Oman Navy Command, which is conducting operations requiring time and careful attention to safety concerns.

Initial reports suggest approximately three crew members are missing; however, the Navy has not officially confirmed this number pending clear documentation.

Regarding the controversy over prior warnings,

The Navy stated it cannot yet provide a clear answer about whether warnings were issued or orders violated, as no definitive evidence or eyewitness accounts are available. It is anticipated that the first rescued crew members and the ship’s captain can best clarify the circumstances of the incident.
