A wild boar piglet escaped the Doi Khluang forest fire in Chiang Mai. Villagers handed it over to officials, who found it weak, dehydrated, and bearing burn wounds across its body. It is being urgently sent for recovery as officials work together to continue fighting the forest fire.
The forest fire in the Doi Khluang area of Chiang Dao district, Chiang Mai province, continues to flare up and cause damage to the forest and wildlife. Joint operations have been conducted with the Fire Tiger team and the Disaster Response Association Team (DRAT) using firefighting drones in Chiang Dao from 13 to 16 April.
Reports say that on 16 April 2026, local villagers brought a wild boar piglet to officials. The piglet, which fled the forest fire, was weak and had multiple wounds on its body. Officials said villagers found the piglet weak and burned, then gave it water to drink, which revived it. It was then taken to the Chiang Dao Wildlife Sanctuary for recovery before being released back into the forest.
Information shows the fire incident occurred around Doi Khluang in the Chiang Dao Wildlife Sanctuary, Chiang Dao district, Chiang Mai. The forest fire remains uncontrolled due to the steep mountainous terrain and cliffs, making access difficult. Firefighter teams have been mobilized and used over 35 drone flights to drop more than 1,500 liters of water to extinguish the fire.
The cause is suspected to be human activity involving illegal forest burning to collect forest products or expand agricultural land, employing tactics to spread the fire later on.
On 15 April, from 06:00 to 22:30, both day and night, the Fire Tiger team from Chiang Dao Wildlife Sanctuary and the DRAT mobile team of the Disaster Response Association coordinated efforts.
