A fire at the Lat Phrao Beer Hall prompted the Chatuchak District Director to confirm that the establishment held valid permits, noting that current regulations for single-story buildings do not mandate the installation of a fire sprinkler system.
The fire at the "Lat Phrao Beer Hall" on the night of 12 Jul 2026 resulted in 26 deaths and 63 injuries. Society has raised questions about the building’s safety systems, as eyewitnesses reported the fire started from soundproofing materials on the ceiling, which lacked a fire sprinkler system.
Thairath Online's special news team contacted Mr. Prasart Phosrimart, Director of Chatuchak District, regarding the establishment’s license. He stated that the Lat Phrao Beer Hall had been operating for a long time with legally registered permits as a food service and live music venue. The license is valid until 4 Dec 2026.
Authorities had previously inspected the establishment’s hygiene and safety readiness before its opening, ensuring full compliance with all Bangkok Metropolitan Administration standards.
Regarding safety systems on the day of the incident, the building is single-story with four emergency exits as per design. However, only three exits were usable during the fire: the main entrance, the restroom side, and the rear of the kitchen.
Inside the venue, there were fire alarm systems and a sufficient number of chemical fire extinguishers. However, no fire sprinkler system was installed because current law does not require sprinkler systems for single-story buildings.
The fire’s severity was caused by the interior decorations, which were highly flammable, allowing the fire to spread rapidly and produce thick smoke. This smoke caused suffocation and obscured emergency exit signs, leading to panic and people blocking the emergency exits.
Initially, the Chatuchak District Office has ordered the temporary closure of this entertainment venue until the situation is resolved and safety measures are properly implemented.
