PULO issued a statement denying claims that Malaysia provides financial support to southern border activists, describing the accusations as baseless and warning they could negatively affect Thai-Malaysian relations and the peace process.
Amid recent unrest in the three southern border provinces, on 26 Jul 2026 GMT+7, the Patani United Liberation Organization or PULO (Patani United Liberation Organization), one of the groups active in the area, officially issued a statement addressing reports that Malaysia provides financial support. The statement, signed by Kasturi Mahkota, PULO chairperson, stated that
"Malaysia should not be linked to allegations of financially supporting the Patani struggle without evidence.
PULO is aware of accusations attempting to connect Malaysia as a supporter or financier of Patani fighters.
PULO's position is clear that such allegations require solid, verifiable evidence and should not be based on speculation or assumptions, as they could harm the good relations between Thailand and Malaysia and hinder peace efforts.
Malaysia plays a significant role as a facilitator in the peace negotiation process. PULO views this role as a peaceful political effort, not as proof of supporting any side.
PULO hopes all parties, including the media, will report on this issue responsibly and based on facts. Our main goal is to collectively seek ways to end the conflict and establish lasting peace in Patani.
PULO continues to support inclusive peace talks involving all parties and appreciates Malaysia's role as facilitator, aiming for a peaceful, just, comprehensive, and sustainable resolution."
