
The Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) has sounded the battle drum, signaling the Thai team’s readiness to compete in the 20th Asian Games from 19 September to 4 October 2026 in Japan. Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of SAT, is preparing a strong team of 682 athletes during the final three months to pursue gold medals.
On 29 June 2026, regarding the upcoming 20th Asian Games scheduled from 19 September to 4 October 2026 in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), revealed that SAT, the National Sports Development Fund, the Sports Associations of Thailand, and the National Olympic Committee of Thailand have collaborated continuously to prepare a Thai contingent of 682 athletes from 47 sports associations.
The SAT Governor added that at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, People's Republic of China, the Thai team won 12 gold, 14 silver, and 32 bronze medals. For this edition, SAT has supported the Sports Associations of Thailand in preparing athletes continuously since the 33rd SEA Games late last year and the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China. With about three months remaining before competition, SAT continues to prioritize all aspects of team preparation to ensure maximum readiness, expecting an improved performance over the previous Games.
"Regarding the budget for team preparation, athlete participation, prize money for both the Asian Games and the 5th Asian Para Games scheduled from 18 to 24 October 2026, as well as live broadcasting, SAT and the National Sports Development Fund have planned and prepared comprehensively. On this occasion, we invite Thai sports fans to follow and support our athletes through the T Sports 7 channel," said Dr. Kongsak.
The 20th Asian Games will be held from 19 September to 4 October 2026 in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, featuring 43 sports with 469 gold medals contested. These include aquatic sports (swimming, diving, water polo, and artistic swimming), archery, athletics, badminton, baseball-softball, basketball, boxing, breaking, padel, canoe-kayak, combat sports (jujitsu, kurash, and MMA), cricket, cycling, equestrian, esports, fencing, hockey, football, golf, gymnastics, handball, judo, kabaddi, karate, modern pentathlon, rowing, rugby sevens, sailing-windsurfing, sepak takraw, shooting, skateboarding, sport climbing, squash, surfing, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis-soft tennis, triathlon, volleyball (indoor and beach), weightlifting, wrestling, wushu, and teqball.
