Japan, host of the 20th Asian Games, is counting down one month before the competition begins and warmly welcomes over 15,000 athletes from across Asia. Meanwhile, Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand, revealed the Thai team is 100% ready, and there are no problems with allowances for athletes and coaches.
Updates on the 20th Asian Games, scheduled from 19 September to 4 October 2026 in Nagoya, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, show that Dr. Kongsak Yodmanee, Governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT), stated that Japan, as the host, has begun a one-month countdown to the event, with a lively atmosphere. At the same time, they are ready to welcome over 15,000 athletes from all across Asia who will compete.
“According to monitoring Japan’s preparations, the host plans to accommodate 4,000 to 5,000 athletes on a cruise ship that has 571 cabins, 7 swimming pools, and 8 restaurants. They are confident the athletes will not be affected by Japan’s typhoon season. Another 2,000 athletes and officials will stay in wooden container-style accommodations at Garden Pier Port in Nagoya, while the rest will stay in various hotels,” Dr. Kongsak said.
The SAT Governor added that the Thai national athletes in each sport are training diligently and with full dedication. He also received information that overall, the Thai team is well prepared in every aspect. The Sports Authority of Thailand, together with the National Sports Development Fund, the National Olympic Committee of Thailand, and the Sports Associations of Thailand, are continuously cooperating closely.
“There are no issues with allowances for athletes and coaches. Payments for June were completed fully. For July, sports associations that have submitted their documents are in the process of receiving payments, which are being expedited. For associations still missing some documents, coordination is ongoing to ensure allowances for athletes and coaches can be disbursed as quickly as possible,” Dr. Kongsak concluded.
