Condolences for 14-Year-Old Footballer Killed in Train Collision

A 14-year-old footballer died after being hit by a train, prompting an outpouring of grief from fans.

On 3 Dec 2025, Josh Travis, a 14-year-old rising goalkeeper for Nottingham Forest, died in a train collision at the Burton Joyce railway crossing in Nottinghamshire, England.

Network Rail had submitted a request to Nottinghamshire County Council in March to close this railway crossing citing safety concerns, warning of a “very high risk of serious incidents” and reporting multiple near-misses.

The accident occurred on the evening of 26 Nov local time in England, causing Travis to be thrown into a roadside ditch. Emergency responders attempted to save him but were unsuccessful, marking a tragic loss for English football.

The site of the accident is the same location where Matt Horn, an actor from the series Gavin and Stacey, was hit by a train in 2018 while walking home from a pub, sustaining arm injuries but surviving.

On 30 Nov, before the Premier League match between Nottingham Forest and Brighton, fans held a moment of silence in memory of the young footballer.
