West Ham's manager reveals reasons they nearly defeated Manchester United after a late equalizer in the Premier League.
On 5 December 2025 GMT+7, Nuno Espírito Santo, West Ham United's manager, spoke after the midweek English Premier League match where they drew 1-1 away against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
In this match, Man Utd took the lead 1-0 through Diogo Dalot, who scored after picking up a blocked long-range shot by Casemiro in the 58th minute. West Ham equalized 1-1 with a rebound finish by Soungoutou Magassa from a corner kick in the 83rd minute.
The match ended with Man Utd missing the chance to move up to 5th place in the Premier League table, remaining in 8th with 22 points, while West Ham has 12 points in 18th place, just 2 points above the relegation zone.
Nuno Espírito Santo praised his West Ham players for their resilience in earning the equalizer and said they probably could have beaten Man Utd. "I am happy when we equalized. I am very happy because I felt we were superior at that time. We had good momentum."
"I am very pleased with Jarrod Bowen’s performance. We are very glad to have him as captain. He leads by example and played excellently today. I think Aaron Wan-Bissaka also did well. Our defense was okay."
"The goal we conceded was from a rebound and had nothing to do with our system. We tried to defend well and worked hard. Overall, I think our defense was quite positive."
"This is an important result because this is a tough stadium. We are proud to have achieved something. We probably deserved 3 points. I feel we had good momentum, although Man Utd also had some chances."
"I think our overall performance, especially in the second half, how we fought back into the game, how we played and worked together, caused many problems for Manchester United."
