Dominik Szoboszlai Opens Up After Liverpools Away Win Over Inter Milan Without Salah

Dominik Szoboszlai opened up after Liverpool’s away win over Inter Milan despite Mohamed Salah’s absence, scoring the decisive penalty in the 88th minute and moving the team into the top 8 of the league phase.

On 10 December 2025, Dominik Szoboszlai became the hero by converting a penalty in the 88th minute to lead Liverpool to a narrow 1-0 victory away at Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League league phase. The win secured three crucial points, moving Liverpool up to 8th place in the table after six matches with a perfect 12 points.

In this match, Liverpool’s squad did not include Mohamed Salah, who was excluded from the traveling team to Italy following his public expression of dissatisfaction after being dropped to the bench for three consecutive matches, as well as tensions with manager Arne Slot and the club’s board. As a result, Szoboszlai took on the penalty-taking duties and did not disappoint.

After the match, Szoboszlai shared his thoughts:

“We didn’t have Mo (Salah), but we fought to win because that’s our job. Life isn’t always good; there are times of disappointment, ups and downs. Sometimes we lose, sometimes we win. Today we won with a penalty and kept a clean sheet. That’s what matters.”

He added:

“I tried to do my job as the manager instructed, both on and off the pitch, along with everyone in the team. We had to fight and do our duties, and in the end, we secured the victory today.”

Despite a tense atmosphere within the team, the “Reds” showed resilience by winning away and keeping a clean sheet on Italian soil.

Liverpool’s next match is at home against Brighton & Hove Albion, which will be their last game before Salah travels to represent Egypt in the African Cup of Nations. The future of the Egyptian striker with the club remains under close observation.
