Jürgen Klopp reveals his deep understanding of Mohamed Salah's personality after Arne Slot was publicly criticized by the star player.
On 11 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Jürgen Klopp, former Liverpool manager, opened up about working with Mohamed Salah, admitting the Egyptian star “is not easy to manage, but not difficult either.” He clarified that issues only arise when Salah is not playing or is substituted, following the player’s explosive interview targeting current manager Arne Slot after being dropped to the bench for three consecutive matches.
In a one-hour interview with BBC Sport, Klopp said that throughout their time together, Salah has been a player full of self-confidence who expects to play every minute, which has made him one of the best players globally but also sometimes causes tension.
“I’m not saying he’s easy to manage, but it’s not difficult either,” Klopp said.
“You only have problems with Mohamed Salah when he’s not playing or when you take him off the pitch.”
One widely discussed incident was the May 2024 match against West Ham, where Salah had a minor argument with Klopp after being named a substitute, later telling the media briefly, “If I spoke today, everything would blow up.”
However, Klopp confirmed that behind such intensity, Salah is a player with relentless determination and a key factor in their shared success.
“Mo has known since he was young that he has to work harder than others. He’s constantly improving and never stops,” Klopp said.
“After the summer break, he comes back with new skills, as if he’s practiced those moves during the entire off-season. We push each other to never stop. When we lifted the Premier League trophy, that was the moment that tied us together forever.”
Klopp concluded with words showing the utmost respect for the striker.
“He will be remembered as one of the greatest players of all time.”
