Straight Talk! Klopp Opens Up for the First Time on the Rift with Salah

Arne Klopp openly admitted feeling uncomfortable with the tense situation involving Mohamed Salah following the fiery interview that rocked Anfield.

On 13 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Arne Klopp, Liverpool's manager, openly acknowledged for the first time that he is “not enjoying” the tense situation surrounding Mohamed Salah after the Egyptian star gave a strong interview criticizing the club, sparking a heated controversy throughout the week. Klopp emphasized that all decisions are made with the team and club's best interests in mind.

The issue arose after Salah was dropped to the bench for three consecutive Premier League matches, including the 3-3 draw against Leeds United, despite having started 53 straight league games before. Salah clearly expressed his dissatisfaction to the media, accusing the club of "making him a scapegoat" and admitting that his relationship with Klopp is strained.

The situation intensified when Salah was not even included in the squad for the UEFA Champions League trip to Inter Milan earlier in the week. Both parties then held serious talks on Friday to find a resolution and set a shared direction for the future.

Reports indicate that the negotiations went positively, and Salah is likely to be named in Liverpool's Premier League squad for the home game against Brighton on Saturday, which will be the last match before he departs to represent Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Klopp said ahead of the game,

“I’ve never talked about this before, but I admit frankly that I’m not enjoying this kind of situation. We won the league together, and he has done great things for the club. Having problems like this with a player is something no one wants to see.”

The Reds’ manager stressed that although he feels uneasy, his duty is to select the team prioritizing the club and team’s best interests first, while trying to avoid turning the matter into a “big drama” for the Brighton match.

“If I can avoid it becoming like a circus and it’s good for the team, then I want to do that because it benefits no one.”

Klopp also declined to provide details about the conversations or personal feelings, insisting that keeping matters internal is the best way to resolve this challenging situation.
