
Paris Saint-Germain won on penalties against Flamengo after a thrilling 120-minute draw to claim the FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2025.
The 2025 Intercontinental Cup final took place at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium (neutral venue), featuring UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain from Europe against Copa Libertadores champions Flamengo from South America.
In the first half, at the 38th minute, PSG took the lead 1-0 with a goal by Kvilitaia, and the score remained unchanged at halftime.
In the second half, at the 62nd minute, Flamengo earned a penalty which Jortinho successfully converted to equalize at 1-1.
Neither team scored again in the remaining time, ending 90 minutes tied at 1-1. Extra time was played, but after 120 minutes, the deadlock persisted, leading to a penalty shootout to decide the champion.
PSG was more accurate in the shootout, winning 2-1 over Flamengo and capturing the title for the first time.
PSG goalkeeper Matvei Safonov was the hero, saving four penalties during the shootout.
