Man Utd Acts Quickly After Brunos Injury Ahead of January Transfer Window

Man Utd has acted quickly after Bruno's injury ahead of the January transfer market opening.

On 23 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Darmes Seth, a reporter from Sky Sports, reported the latest decision by Manchester United, currently 7th in the English Premier League, following captain and midfielder Bruno Fernandes' hamstring injury.

Bruno Fernandes suffered the injury during the latest Premier League match, being substituted at halftime in the 1-2 away loss to Aston Villa. Initial estimates suggest he may need about a month to recover.

This situation has led Man Utd to plan to use young midfielder Koby Meno as a replacement for Bruno Fernandes. The 20-year-old player desires a transfer in the January window for more playing opportunities, with Italy's Serie A top club Napoli seen as the favorite to sign him.

Recently, Darmes Seth revealed Man Utd's decision regarding Koby Meno's future in the winter transfer window: "Ruben Amorim has said he wants Koby Meno to stay. He insists Meno must prove himself and convince that he deserves a place in the team more than Bruno Fernandes."

"Whenever asked why Meno is not in the team, Ruben Amorim explains that Meno has to compete with Bruno Fernandes for a spot."

"Since Bruno might be out long-term in January, you can hardly imagine Manchester United letting Meno go."

"Would loaning out Koby Meno benefit Man Utd? Probably not, because he is part of the squad and has consistently played as a substitute, especially during the Africa Cup of Nations and Bruno Fernandes' injury."

"It's an unfortunate timing for Meno, who injured his calf yesterday and missed the game against Aston Villa. Ruben Amorim hinted he might miss the Boxing Day match against Newcastle United, but once fully fit, Meno could have a chance to return as a starter for Manchester United."

As for midfield reinforcement targets, several notable players are on the list of interest, including Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest), Carlos Baleba (Brighton), Adam Worthington (Crystal Palace), and Alex Scott (Bournemouth). It is expected that moves will wait until the summer transfer window.
