Both Loans Going Poorly! Liverpools Two Loaned Players Face Playing Time Issues, Likely to Return Early

Multiple media outlets report that Harvey Elliott and Kostas Tsimikas, two Liverpool players sent out on loan, are facing serious challenges in getting playing time and are likely to be recalled before their loan contracts expire.

On 25 Dec 2025 GMT+7, the situations of two Liverpool players out on loan this season are uncertain. Both Harvey Elliott and Kostas Tsimikas have struggled for playing time with their temporary clubs during the first half of the season. Recent reports from various media sources indicate both could be called back to Anfield earlier than planned.

Regarding Harvey Elliott, who was loaned to Aston Villa to gain consistent experience, he has been unable to secure a regular starting position as hoped, facing strong internal competition and an unclear role in the team's tactical plans.

Fabrizio Romano, the renowned Italian journalist, reported that Liverpool is preparing to discuss with Aston Villa how to address Elliott's current situation. It is highly likely he will be recalled to Anfield early. The club will then reassess whether he stays with the first team or is loaned out again.

Meanwhile, Kostas Tsimikas, the Greek left-back loaned to Roma in Serie A, faces a similar situation, unable to establish himself as a starter under coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

Tsimikas, who moved from Olympiacos in 2020 and has served as backup to Andrew Robertson, lost priority at Anfield after Liverpool signed Hungarian international left-back Milos Kerkez last summer, before being loaned to Roma late in the transfer window.

However, in Rome, the 29-year-old has started only three Serie A matches. Gasperini prefers a 3-4-3 formation, often selecting Wesley Fofana or Devin Reh in the left wing-back role instead.

Greek media outlet Sportime reports that Roma is also considering sending Tsimikas back to Liverpool mid-season. If he moves again, he aims to continue playing in one of Europe's top five leagues: the Premier League, Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, or Ligue 1.

Tsimikas' contract with Liverpool runs until summer 2027. It remains to be seen where the Greek left-back's future will lie after the January transfer window closes, as well as that of Harvey Elliott, whose fate also awaits Liverpool's decision.
