Amorim Clarifies Kobby Mendys Future After Brothers Let My Brother Go Shirt Post

Ruben Amorim, Manchester United's coach, clearly addressed Kobby Mendy's future after his brother posted a photo wearing a shirt reading "Let my brother go."

On 26 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Ruben Amorim confirmed that Kobby Mendy is "the future of Manchester United" and will not be allowed to move on loan during the January transfer window unless the club signs a new player to replace him.

This stance comes amid controversy after Mendy's brother posted a photo of himself wearing a shirt demanding his brother's freedom. In the Premier League match on 15 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Manchester United drew 4-4 at home against Bournemouth. This season, Mendy has appeared in only 12 matches across all competitions and has not started any Premier League games despite 17 matches having passed.

Amorim said, "He is the future of Manchester United. That is how I feel. So Mendy just has to wait for his opportunity. Football can change in two days. He will always have a chance to prove himself and fight for a starting spot."

Amorim highlighted Mendy's versatility: "He can play in Casemiro's position, fit into a three-midfielder setup, or play in the same role as Mason Mount (number 10)."

Previously, Amorim was open to loaning Mendy out, with the management not wanting to sell him. But he recently stated that a move would only happen if a replacement arrives, emphasizing clearly, "If we don't get anyone in, it's difficult to let him go."

With captain Bruno Fernandes sidelined long-term due to injury, and Bryan Mbeumo and Ahmad Diallo, two number 10 options, away representing their countries in the Africa Cup of Nations, Mendy may get more playing time once he regains full fitness.
