Surprise: Manchester United aims to outbid Liverpool for a strong defender, with a chance to secure the player if one condition is fulfilled.
On 26 Dec 2025 GMT+7, CaughtOffside, a well-known football media outlet, reported that Manchester United, a prominent Premier League club, has a surprising plan to strengthen their defense by finding a replacement for Harry Maguire in the future.
Harry Maguire's contract with Manchester United will expire at the end of this season, with an option to extend for one more year. However, the "Red Devils" have already begun searching for a long-term replacement. Initially, they made a 50 million-pound offer for Jarrod Branthwaite, but Everton rejected it, valuing him at 70 million pounds.
Recently, CaughtOffside revealed that Manchester United has identified England international Marc Guehi as a top target to replace Harry Maguire. The "Red Devils" appreciate Guehi's complete qualities, including defensive skills, leadership, and high-level experience.
Marc Guehi has clearly announced he will leave Crystal Palace once his contract ends this season. Liverpool nearly signed him last summer, having agreed on the fee and completed the medical, but the deal collapsed at the last minute because they couldn't find a replacement in time.
Although Liverpool is the favorite to sign Marc Guehi on a free transfer after his contract expires, it remains unclear which team he will join. This leaves Manchester United with a chance to outbid them. If Manchester United qualifies for the UEFA Champions League, it would increase their appeal to the player as well.
