Weietz opens up after scoring his first goal for Liverpool, moving up to 4th in the Premier League.
On 28 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Florian Weietz, the expensive German international midfielder, gave an interview after the 18th round of the 2025-26 English Premier League season, in which Liverpool narrowly defeated bottom-ranked Wolverhampton 2-1 at Anfield.
Liverpool increased their points to 32, climbing to 4th place in the standings and staying in the top group, while Wolverhampton remain winless with only 2 points, still at the bottom.
In this match, Florian Weietz scored his first goal for Liverpool since joining from Bayer Leverkusen this season for a fee of £116 million, netting the second goal in the 42nd minute to put the Reds ahead 2-0, helping secure their continued winning streak.
Florian Weietz, who unlocked his first goal after playing 23 matches for Liverpool across all competitions, said, "It’s a great feeling for me to score my first goal since joining the team, and we got the three points. I’m very happy."
"We worked well together with Hugo Ekitike. I hope he saw me. His passing quality is exceptional; not everyone spots the chance to pass like that. I’m grateful to him for creating the opportunity for me today."
The Liverpool midfielder shared about moving to play in the English Premier League: "I knew this was the toughest league in the world, and I had to adapt to the physical strength and the players around me in midfield. I feel better with every game, and I want to keep feeling like this."
"This year is good (without a Christmas break). Last year, I had a winter break and watched football, including the Premier League. So I’m sure some of my old teammates are watching me play. I enjoyed today’s game, though sometimes I want to rest a bit."
As Liverpool won their third consecutive Premier League match and remain unbeaten in the last six games (four wins, two draws), Weietz said, "I think we’re starting to find our rhythm. Recently, we’ve played very well and keep improving. We need to try not to put ourselves in difficult situations. Climbing the league table is a positive development."
