Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca, whose name suggests calmness, responded to Cole Palmer's visible frustration after being substituted in the game lost to Aston Villa.
On 28 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca confirmed he has no issues with Cole Palmer's attitude after being substituted in Chelsea's 1-2 defeat to Aston Villa last Saturday.
In that match, Palmer started as a starter but was substituted off in the 72nd minute, replaced by Estevao, while the score was still tied at 1-1. The Chelsea midfielder clearly showed displeasure at the decision as he walked off the pitch and spoke with assistant coach Willy Caballero before sitting on the bench.
When asked if he was concerned about Palmer's reaction after the game, Maresca, who watched from the stands due to a sideline ban, said, “Not at all. He worked very well, both with and without the ball. His pressing was excellent.”
“We have another game in 48 hours, so he did well, and we are pleased to have him back on the field again.”
When asked if Palmer's substitution was due to fitness concerns, Maresca replied, “No, I think he gave his all. He might have just started to tire a bit, but overall he played well.”
This result leaves Chelsea in 5th place in the Premier League, having won only one of their last six matches.
