Alexis Mac Allister vents his frustration, saying Liverpool has changed too much. Although the team is full of talented players, the lack of unity is a major problem causing the team's form to collapse and ending their league title hopes.
4 Jan 2026 GMT+7 — Liverpool’s defense of their Premier League title this season has become a difficult journey. After triumphing last year and being expected to reclaim dominance, the reality has been harsher than anticipated.
At the halfway point of the season, the "Reds" sit fourth in the table, trailing league leaders Arsenal by 12 points—a gap too large to ignore in a league that allows little room for error.
The goalless draw at home against Leeds United on New Year’s Day reflects a season lacking smoothness and a true rhythm.
Recently, Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Allister openly admitted his disappointment in an interview with Sky Sports before the upcoming away match against Fulham.
"It’s painful," Mac Allister said, acknowledging that hopes of winning the league are nearly gone.
"Many things have changed since last season. It’s not a perfect situation, but we have to accept it and work hard to improve ourselves going forward."
The 27-year-old midfielder pointed directly to decisions made during the past summer.
"Many things have changed. New players came in to replace those who left. We changed too much, but I won’t say more than that."
Mac Allister also reiterated the ongoing problem when asked about the team losing momentum, reflecting that so many changes have directly impacted the consistency of their performance.
However, he stressed that unity and the team’s recovery are now the most important matters.
"This should be a time when we are happy about winning the Premier League and should be in a better position."
"We have excellent players. What we need is to be one team."
From a personal perspective, the World Cup winner emphasized that his success is inseparable from the team.
"Without the team, I have no value. We all have to think about each other and raise the team together."
Although hopes in the Premier League are fading, the goals remain alive.
"The Champions League is still there, and we will fight with full effort, including the FA Cup, which is a very important trophy in English football."
"When you play for Liverpool, you always have to fight for everything."
